AVT navigation and multi-media devices showcased at 2012 PIMS

The latest model of the AVT personal navigation range, the AVT PN-504, will be launched at the event. Featuring a new high-resolution 5-inch LCD touchscreen, the AVT PN-504 is powered by the latest Atlas IV 533MHz CPU with a built-in high sensitivity GPS receiver that is quickly able to acquire a GPS fix in 3-minutes. Unique to the AVT Navigator range is improved turn-by-turn navigation with (a) junction lane assist, with an enlarged view of where you need to make the turn; (b) 3D junction view, so you get a 3D guide of which lane you should take; (c) 3D buildings, to provide landmarks for better location identification; and (d) speed camera, to warn of approaching speed cams and avoid speed violations. All AVT PN devices come with free updates for two years, so that you can update your maps with the latest changes to the country's road network.

While smartphones and tablets now offer mapping services, a dedicated navigation device such as the AVT PN-504 is still offers advantages you do not need to pay for a broadband data plan and do not have to worry about battery drain.

Exclusively for the 2012 Philippine International Motor Show, visitors to the AVT booth will be able to trade in their old navigation devices of whatever brand to receive very special discounts and freebies on various AVT PN models.
Vehicle owners who are concerned about security and safety may also take a closer look at the AVT iSTAR, a portable tracking device that works on the GSM/GPRS networks and GPS satellites. The VMall Exhibit Area was packed with competitive gamers last Friday and Saturday, July 13-14, as Übertech Philippines hosted its first ever action-packed gaming tournament, Gaming Overload.

The two-day tournament served as the playing field where gamers battled against each other for the top spot in three of the freshest and most popular PC games in the market. The tournament opened with matches for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and NBA 2k12. The second day featured a friendly tournament round of NBA 2k12 and the matches for the Street Fighter x Tekken division.

The winners for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 were Team FXE, composed of Jacky Chan, Eleine Joyce Javier, Juan Lim, and Firdausi Mulsid. Team UDTxSE, composed of Christian Hizon, Dan Gutierrez, Emmanuel Capalad and Benson Sta. Ana, ranked second place.

KITA-KITS BUSINESS TRAINING

Free entrepreneurial skills training


Pursuant to the amended Magna Carta for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), the second week of July of each year has been declared as "Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development (MSMED) Week."

This year, to highlight the importance of MSMEs as a key sector in the national economic development agenda, the celebrations will cover the entire month of July. One of the highlights of SME Month will be the Kita Kits Business Training which will offer various skills and entrepreneurial training sessions in over 70 areas of learning covering the Food, Services, and Gifts-Decors-Houseware sectors. The Kita Kits Business Training intends to enhance the operational capabilities of MSMEs, expose them to current business trends, and increase their skills to compete in the local and global markets. There will be booths for exhibitors who will make available to the public starter kits that are ready and easy for an individual to start a business. All training sessions are free of charge.

The Kita Kits Business Training will be held on 6-7 July and 20-21 July 2012, from 8:30am to 5:00pm at the Enterprise Development Center (formerly the Philippine Trade Training Center), International Trade Center Complex, Roxas Boulevard corner Sen. Gil Puyat Avenue, Pasay City.

On Friday, 6 July 2012, the SME briefings will cover the following topics: How to be an entrepreneur with the BMBE Law; Integrated business licensing; Managing your finances; and How to manage price competition. Demo skills training will focus on Gifts-Decors-Houseware products such as novelty items, bags and fashion accessories, flower arrangement, balloon decors, bead works, perfume making, cleaning aids, laundry aids, flip-flops making, etc.

On Friday, 20 July 2012, the SME briefings will be on: Franchising as a business alternative; MSME corporate social responsibility; How to market your product; and Customer relationship management. The skills training will be on the services sector such as basic hilot, car care, hair cutting, catering, basic photography, spa services, janitorial services, cellphone repair, and others.

On Saturday, 21 July 2012, the topics covered by the SME briefings will include: Orientation on shelf-life testing and nutrition labeling; How to acquire an FDA certificate; and Business opportunities on organic products. Food processing demo skills will be on bartending, basic barista, no-bake cake and cookies, meat processing, among others.
